This three-day course is designed to give patrol officers and detectives an overview of responding to and investigating cases involving child abuse and sexual assaults. Topics of discussion include: Recognizing and identifying physical injuries, signs of abuse, interviewing children, responding to a crime scene and DNA collection, taking statements and report writing, the Sexual Assault Response Team, cyber forensics and investigating Drug Facilitated Sexual Assaults (DFSA’s). Interviewing and interrogating the suspect will be covered to include the use of the polygraph examination and when it is really needed, along with discussions on child abductions. Representatives from the New Jersey State Police, FBI, Child Protection Center, County Prosecutor’s Office will discuss these topics and more.
